Love Yourself Out of Your Prison

I served time in prison.

Yep, I have a record, but I am not ashamed of it. In fact, I embrace it. It’s part of my story.

That prison that I lived in was build by fear and cemented by anxiety.

I grew up as a shy, fearful young man because of the judgments I have received and/or perceived from others. I did not allow myself to think that I can break from this mental prison.

That was until God showed me that I could. His love for me led me to great counsel and care from others.

As a result, I learned that with lack of knowledge comes lack of understanding. And you need understanding to know who you are and what you can become.

This is why I do the following.  Each item helps me to love the adventure of discovering myself and the world around me:

1.Writing- because it is a passion of mine.

2.Reading from authors who are where I want to be in life. Also, from whom help shape a foundation for my future.

3. Holding on to dear friends– Community is vital for the human soul.

4. Loving rest– The whole hustler attitude of “I’ll sleep when I’m dead” really means “I’ll work so much, that I will deteriorate my health to die sooner than I actually would have since I can’t listen to conventional wisdom. This is the only way I’ll succeed.” – There may be a time where you’ll need to pull all-nighters but that should never be a lifelong mentality.

5. Smell the roses, literally! Smell them!- I love nature. Man is meant to be in tune with nature, in fact. When I see a garden, I like to look at it and study it some. I’ll even smell the flowers if I could.Aroma therapy does good for the soul.

Tell me, in what ways do you discover yourself? How do you get to know the world around you??
