Hope Builds Character( Excerpt 2 from my upcoming book)

Today may be one of those days where you just can’t take one more criticism. You’re just going to snap someone’s neck if you hear anything that remotely sounds like a judgment! I’ve been there. You can just give a look and you know that the other person will know not to mess with you! Some people LIVE to give criticisms that are meant to break down people and never meant to build them up. I hate that and no one has time for that!

However, I do have to mention that many of us need to learn to adjust our attitudes. We may have a “right” to feel what we feel about the circumstances we find ourselves in but having a negative attitude about things only bears bad fruit. Have you ever seen The Christmas Carol? It’s a story created by Charles Dickens that centers around a grumpy, elder man who hates Christmas. He’s such grinch about it. Everyone from his employees to his neighbors, knows of his reputation of being a sour grape in the bunch. He was like that until he was visited by three spirits: The spirit of Christmas past, the spirit of Christmas present, and the spirit of Christmas future. He got to see what his life was like before, what it was in the present and what it will be like in the future-all from an outside perspective.

See, Scrooge had grown to be a heartless, empty, mean man because he lost all hope for happiness. He became a man that many did not want to be around, but after this trip through his life, that all changed. He had joy again! He was generous again! He had hope again! His heart changed and because of that so did his character. That is why it is such a beloved story. It shows the “miracle” of Christmas of a man’s heart being changed.

Friend, I know that hope deferred makes the heart sick, but that does not mean that hope does not get answered. Don’t be a scrooge. Let hope come in and watch how you change for the better.
