I like to think that I can be a creative person. I love to write, I love to be inspired, I love to imagine things and I love to come up with fresh ideas. Over the course of the last 6 months, I have come up with 20 different stories, products and businesses alike just inside my head. I am only going with a few of them, but it can be exciting to think of something fresh, even if you do not know the outcome of that very thing.
There is a downside to wanting to come up with something that is fresh, though. Writers call it writer’s block. I don’t know what other artists call it but it is quite common to those who try to come up with something new. It can be a horrible place to be in! You get exciting for this new concept that you come up with, you see the potential, you start working on it, then BAM!! You have nothing to add to it.
It’s time wasting.
But there is a place where that doesn’t happen my friend! I call it…
I know you have heard of it. People tell you to get in it all the time! Subliminally, I think we ask,” You tell us to get in the zone, but I must ask: WHERE IS IT?!!”
I believe that the answer is not just a location, but more of what it actually is. The zone is something that is made. In fact, YOU build it! Sure, you can go to a familiar place where you think you can think most clearly, or put on your favorite musical artist and all, but the zone is fortified with a mental focus that you need to exercise in your mind. All those prior things may be necessary to facilitate the zone, but without a mental focus, your zone will not exist. For me, my zone is when I walk back and forth in the same place, while walking pretty intensely. It helps me to get locked in to finding an idea or a solution. I figured this out about two months ago at about 2 AM on a weekday. I believe it was something that I was already doing before, but it dawned on me that some of my most creative ideas came while I was walking back and forth! When that happened, that is when I decided that that was my zone and that I will get in it quite often. Let me tell ya, it has been working!!
If you have a zone, would you mind sharing what it is made of and where do you go to get in it?? Thank you!
